This shape-shifting Mercedes-Maybach has a canvas for digital artists to explore

There are mind-blowing concept cars, and then there are some that are totally bonkers. This Mercedes-Maybach concept is exactly what I mean. The grand touring coupe for high-class nomads is straight out of “The League of Extraordinary Gentlemen” textbook with its extra-elongated shape, and therein lies its Cyberpunkish appeal.

The main motivation for such car design must be a passion for works of art, and that is precisely what the Mercedes-Maybach SHOWMATIC is. It’s a four-wheeled electric piece to show off the art on the flexible Showmatic Display surface integrated right between the front hood section and the windshield.

To ensure that onlookers have an optimal view of what the driver wants them to see – items such as custom designs, brand logos or subtle artwork – the front end of this coupe is very low. Inside, the driver has an extended screen to create artwork and also define the 3D surface to bring compelling depth to the view. The flexible surface can take any shape, just like the canvas of 3D modeling software.

The cabin for a single person is a place to relax, perfectly in line with the future vision of living room interiors for autonomous vehicles. Plus, the cool display on the dashboard doubles as an immersive drawing board to bring out the pure creative juices. Several menus on the interface are accessible to create stunning artwork worthy of appreciation for the crowd. Since the front is where all the magic happens, the rear and the floor are reserved for the housing of the power unit and the batteries.

When it comes to vehicle design, it has a resounding Batmobile-like presence, mixed with the sophistication of something like a VISION AVTR or the Vision Duet. The advantage of SHOWMATIC lies in its ability to have various looks on demand, and also the possibility of being the best show car to promote brands in a very unique way.
